Lightscape is a feature length film and installation art piece by the inimitable Doug Aitkin producerd in conjunction the LA Phil and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. It explores various themes of place in the American west - music, connection, loneliness, and  above all, light. I shot behind the scenes video, working to capture the process of creation. Watching Doug work with Cinematographer Chris Hadland was incredible, a mix of precision and improvisation, choreography and highly technical lighting. The constructed light was abundant and beautiful, and I tried to find the frame-within-the-frame to capture its invention.
