Postcards From Earth
Sphere Studios
Field Production Coordinator
Postcards from Earth is the fist ever film shot for the groundbreaking MSG Sphere venue in Las Vegas, directed by Darren Arronofsky. I worked as the field production coordinator supporting the US timelapse unit. Our fist charge was to film super cellular storms around the American midwest. We drove over 7500 miles in 2.5 weeks chasing tornadoes with expert photo weather guides. The team creating this was incredible, working with experiment equipment, shooting footage that could only be viewed in VR headsets after significant processing. These timelapse photographers are truly some of the best in the world, and I loved the challenge of logistically supporting this highly experimental and unpredictable shoot.
We shot the first ever tornado captured in timelapse for the Sphere. This is a very unique challenge that requires working with the weather guides to position the camera directly in the path of a dangerous storm far enough away that the team could roll for at least 40 minutes (sometimes 50+ miles away), but close enough that the storm would develop overhead in the Sphere. An incredible dance of timing, weather, navigation, artistry, and teamwork. We then went on to shoot all over the USA capturing quarries, graveyards, and even the abandoned 6 flags amusement park outside of New Orleans.
