We produced Draken as part of the 2020 Port Townsend Virtual Wooden Boat Festival. In response to the Covid19 pandemic, the Northwest Maritime Center invested in a virtual wooden boat festival, its biggest event in of the year, and hired my company to creative direct and produce the online festival. Directed and edited by Danya Apt, this short made beautiful use of the creative resources at our disposal during lockdown. We made the choice to funnel our resources into director/editors who could tell great stories, and asset them in conducting remote interviews, accessing existing footage, contracting camera people remotely and creatively guiding the projects. Draken stood out in Danya’s use of visual art, remote interviews, and an emotionally connected story about this incredible ship.
