The Race to Alaska
Director, Writer, Cinematographer, Producer
Daring, adventurous, and surprisingly funny this feature length documentary explores the extreme and impressive individuals who accept this utterly unique challenge. Described as “the Iditarod on a boat with a chance of drowning or being eaten by a Grizzly bear,” this epic endurance race attracts the intrepid and unhinged who find their edge along a coastline that is as punishing as it is beautiful.
This movie is my biggest project to date. It takes over 70,000 individual clips shot over 7 years and weaves them into a fast paced epic adventure up the BC coast. Shooting this was an incredible journey, such a challenge of creativity and logistics, and later in the edit, an extremely complex puzzle of structure and storytelling. I think the film honors this insane event in an honest and immersive way. It played in 25+ festivals around the world, won 4 audience choice awards, and is currently streaming in North America and Europe.
